You'll see a message that your data is transferring. Let this run, and do not disconnect your Palm Pre while it's running.
You may see a notification from Outlook that an outside application is trying to access your contact information. Click "Yes" to allow the connection. You may have to select a time limit from the drop-down menu before Outlook will allow the connection.
