Guide Review - UTStarcom 6700 Review

The UTStarcom 6700 (PPC-6700 at Sprint and XV6700 at Verizon) has a split personality. It's a good PDA, but it's not that good of a PDA-Phone. Indeed, no matter how good the feature list is (and it is: Bluetooth, 1.3 Megapixel camera, Mini-SD slot), it isn't useful if the phone basics are not up to the level. In this case, the speakerphone is terrible. My calling parties would complain that they heard me as if I was in an empty swimming pool and I could barely hear them: forget using it in your car. The earset was a bit louder but still not to the average acceptable level of other phones.

Accordingly, the drawer keypad is quite useful and well done but while the main key's are backlit, those accessible with a function key (including all the numbers) are not! Thus, they are invisible in the dark. I must say I had a bad experience with the 6700 as a phone, but the web browsing feature, the Bluetooth, etc, worked well. I just wish it was a better phone.
