Review: Free Ringtones at Low-Quality Vendor tkgnet.com

One of the first observations you might notice about free ringtones vendor tkgnet.com is that it doesn’t even have its own logo. Even more, neither does it feature its own name anywhere except for in tiny print in its Web site footer.

It’s as if this site thinks branding isn’t important and “this site” would suffice for its name. Low-quality stock photography is featured atop this site along with the words “best ringtones”. Best ringtones? Hardly.
While its top quality must be that it has some free ringtones at all, the “top mobile ringtones” on its main page haven’t been updated in four months and we can only count 171 free ringtones across all its categories.

Yes. We counted.

If you’re keen on one of those 171, perhaps this site might provide you some value. For others, the site is likely just hoping you’ll click on some of its advertisements and send a few dollars its way.

While the free ringtones it does have can be immediately downloaded in MP3 form, all “listen” links (which would imply that you could listen to the ringtone in streamed form before downloading) just send you off to another Web site.

Narratives throughout this site are decidedly unprofessional, could use a healthy dose of copyediting and ultimately don’t lend credibility.

While the site categorizes its few ringtones by confusing groupings such as “spice life,” “right ringtones” and “bonus call tones,” so does it list outdated information such as “Cingular phone tones” when that company has been consumed by AT&T.

As for the legality of this site to be in business in the first place, nowhere does it list that it has legitimately licensed its audio from the appropriate owners. As you can’t buy any of its content, it’s also unclear how those rightful owners would be receiving their fair cut.
The Bottom Line

Though offering some free ringtones, this vendor’s weak selection, unprofessional Web site and lack of legal clarity makes the site one that should be avoided.
